ACAA Meets with Ambassador Said Jawad at the Embassy of Afghanistan
On the morning of 12 June, a team of seven staff members and interns from the ACAA had the privilege of meeting the new Ambassador of Afghanistan to the UK, H.E. Said Tayeb Jawad.
We were warmly received by the Ambassador and his colleagues, and we were eager to provide them with an introduction to the organisation’s background, achievements and services. We learned about some of the Ambassador’s concerns, and were able to provide insight into the challenges that exist among the Afghan diaspora and refugee community in the UK, based on our experience.
Together, we identified the following issues:
Persistence of barriers for integration, particularly engaging refugee and migrant women, and helping young Muslims reconcile their conflicting identities;
Lack of education, awareness of the UK system and English language provision;
The importance of developing community programs that seek to inform beneficiaries whilst working towards a common goal or local initiative;
Ensuring the safety and comfort of both the minority Afghan and broader British communities.
We look forward to further collaborating with the Ambassador and the Embassy of Afghanistan to find solutions to these issues, contributing to the quality of life and opportunities available to Afghans in the UK.
