A Celebration of Unity: ACAA’s Refugee Week Summer Festival

Jul 10, 2024

“It was a pleasure to be there and thank you for organising such a fantastic event which brought so many people and communities together which otherwise would not have been possible” – Ezzatullah Zamani (Trainee Solicitor)

On the 22nd and 23rd of June, the ACAA organised and gathered the community for a vibrant
two-day summer festival celebrating the rich cultures of South Asia and Afghanistan for this
year’s Refugee Week. The festival was a resounding success, bringing together people over a
weekend filled with joy, laughter, and cultural exchange.

The festival was centred around traditional Desi and Afghan music and dance, with talented
artists and performers – from around the world and locally – captivating the audience with their
energetic and heartfelt displays of cultural heritage. This included Zach Knight, Jaz Dhami, and
Ghezaal Enayat. We also welcomed Host Nazira Karimi who joined us from the US.
With a stream of performers, wonderful stalls also outlined the grounds welcoming delicious
food, traditional attires, jewellery and more. Further, the festival offered a range of activities and
entertainment for children and adults alike to enjoy and especially welcoming for families. The
vibrant atmosphere created endless amusement between the bouncy castle, Ferris wheel, and
football.

The festival was a fitting tribute to Refugee Week, emphasising the resilience and contributions
of refugees in our community. Invited refugees were warmly welcomed, as well as the presence
of local politicians; highlighting the community’s commitment to celebrating diversity and
supporting refugees.

We proudly offered free blood pressure screenings – with over 30 participants. Paramedics and
police were also on hand to offer assistance and advice, to ensure a safe and supportive
environment.

The success of our Refugee Week Summer Festival was a testament to the power of community
and cultural exchange. We loved bringing this celebration of culture, achievements and
community to life and cannot wait to welcome you all and more for future events by ACAA.
Your dedication and meticulous planning have created experiences that are both memorable
and enriching. The effort and passion you put into each event is truly appreciated by all” – Qadria
