Griffin Centre, Staines Road, Feltham, TW14 0HS

EVENT OBJECTIVES:

This August 2025 marks four years since the tragic fall of Kabul.

Hosted by the Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA), this event will convene Afghan diaspora voices alongside UK policymakers, civil society leaders, journalists, academics, and international organisations to confront the worsening crisis.

Sponsored by Diaspora Emergency Danish Action & Coordination (DEMAC), Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

To promote diaspora unity, with a strong emphasis on bridging the gap between newly arrived Afghan diaspora members post-2021 and more established communities across the UK and Europe.

To highlight the diaspora’s contributions to Afghanistan’s relief and long-term resilience, by fostering cross-border collaboration, knowledge-sharing, and strategic partnerships that support humanitarian aid, recovery, and sustainable development in Afghanistan.

Day One will explore how arts and culture act as a unifying force, bringing diverse voices together through shared heritage, music, poetry, and visual arts. This day will celebrate Afghan identity, promote intergenerational exchange, and strengthen the cultural fabric of diaspora communities.

Day Two will centre on humanitarianism and resilience, with in-depth discussions marking four years since the fall of the Afghan government. Panels will address the evolving needs on the ground, highlight diaspora-led humanitarian efforts, and create space for newly arrived diaspora members to share their insights and lived experiences. Together, both days aim to foster lasting connections and collective action among Afghan diaspora groups and international partners.

Panel Discussion:

  • ‘Arts and Culture as a Bridge to Unity’
  • ‘Understanding Local Needs: Voices from Afghanistan and the Diaspora’
  • ‘The Afghan Humanitarian Crisis and Diaspora Engagement’

Roundtable discussion:

  • ‘Collaboration Between Diaspora Organisations and Humanitarian Agencies’
  • ‘Policy Advocacy and Supporting Resilience in Afghanistan’

The roundtable will feature a moderated panel, open-floor exchange, Q&A session and reflections from Dr. Nooralhaq Nasimi MBE HonDSS(RHUL), Founder and CEO of Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA), who was honoured by His Majesty King Charles III in 2023 for his lifetime of service to refugees.
