Fighting For And Celebrating Women: International Women's Day 2024 | ACAA

Fighting for and Celebrating Women: International Women’s Day 2024

Feb 28, 2024

We, at the ACAA, are hosting an event to promote women’s rights. On the 4th of March, this year’s International Women’s event is focused on ‘Inspiring Inclusion’, and will take place at Chiswick Town Hall, a Grade II listed building, dating back to 1876. The event will be a cultural celebration of migrant women’s strengths and achievements, while at the same time highlighting their challenges and calling for their greater inclusivity into British society.

The highlights will include:
● Speeches by Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi MBE, MPs, academics, and women leaders
● Music performance by Ustad Yusuf Mehmood
● Dance performance by Sujata Banerjee Dance Company
● Poetry recitation by Ziba Karbassi, one of the most accomplished and
globally-recognised poets of her generation living in exile
● Fashion Show by refugee women from 15 different ethnicities, depicting diverse cultures
● Poetry Recitation by ACAA Women’s Group of poems published in 14
Magazine and Perspectives in collaboration with Hounslow Action for Youth (HAY)
● Music Performance by ACAA Women Group

We will also have our Women’s Project Exhibition displaying work done by refugee women over years at our centre in partnership with many local and regional organisations. The exhibition will also display mosaics made by our service users in partnership with the British Association of Modern Mosaic (BAMM). The event is an excellent opportunity for organisations to engage in networking, build partnerships with the ACAA, and enjoy a cultural celebration with performances and rich delicacies being served from Afghanistan and Central Asia.
