EVENT OVERVIEW

This event will be a chance for the Founder of ACAA, Dr Nasimi MBE, Lauren Allen Project Manager, and Project Coordinator, Chae St Louis, to present an overview of ACAA, the new partnership with MOJ/HMP and the mobilisation and aims of the project. We will also be addressing various obstacles concerning the reintegration and rehabilitation of people on probation (and in particular refugees and asylum seekers), as well as current issues facing the prison system such as overcrowding, the need for SDS40 releases, and reoffending rates.

The Afghanistan and Central Asian Association would like to invite you for an evening at our Feltham centre on Wednesday 30th October, for the launch of our Rehabilitation and Reintegration for People on Probation Project, in partnership with the Ministry of Justice and His Majesty’s Prison Service.

This project has recently started is active in 4 London boroughs: Hounslow, Ealing, Hillingdon and Brent – with 4 brand new community venues.

It is specifically for those who are minority ethnic groups on probation, male and female and who often have no recourse to public funds, to upskill themselves whilst mending bonds broken within their local community, and society as a whole.

This program is made possible through the London Probation Regional Grants for People from Ethnic Minority Groups. With grant funding over three years this project is the first partnership between HMPPS and ACAA, looking to assist some of the most marginalised members of our communities.

Join us in understanding the role of reintegration and rehabilitation in today’s world. Not just the positive impact this will have on the lives of people on probation from minority ethnic backgrounds, but also for the growth of communities, and future of our societies.

For example, can we to reduce the overcrowding in prisons and strain on our prison system by a more rigorous and person centred approach to integration, in turn promoting healthy rehabilitation and reducing reoffending rates?

ACAA hopes to answer these questions and pose more, as we show how we plan to foster a sense of belonging, eliminate fear, and support fresh starts within our new forward thinking initiative and partnership.

About ACAA:

The Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA) is an award-winning British charity based in London and established in 2000 with a long history of delivering advice, support and integration support for refugees and asylum seekers across the UK. ACAA was founded by Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi, who arrived as a refugee in the back of a refrigerated container with his young family in 1999. The charity has steadily grown and is now the largest Afghan diaspora-led charity in the UK with branches in 3 cities – London, Birmingham and Liverpool.

ACAA has a solid reputation for high-quality, culturally sensitive services based on utilising the lived experience of its Director, Trustees, staff and volunteers. Most recently, ACAA has been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Services and the Founder Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi has received both the British Citizens’ Award and the MBE. Dr Nooralhaq Nasimi has also been awarded the Honorary Doctorate Degree by Royal Holloway.

ACAA & MOJ/HMP Partnership

We are excited to expand our work in 4 Boroughs of West London; Hounslow, Ealing, Hillingdon and Brent, by hosting a series of workshops designed to support the rehabilitation and reintegration of minority ethnic groups on probation in those areas. These workshops will focus on helping participants build essential life skills, develop healthy social networks, and manage their physical and mental well-being, all while fostering a sense of belonging and community.

Join us on the 30th of October and find out more!

We hope you can join us in what promises to be an informative and eye-opening evening bringing our communities together.
