ACAA Refugee Week Festival 2022

27 July 2022

We are very pleased with the success of the Afghanistan and Central Asian Association (ACAA) Refugee Week Festival. Taking place on Sunday 26th June 2022, it saw refugees and non-refugees alike gather at Gunnersbury Park in West London for an afternoon devoted to celebrating Afghan and Central Asian cuisine, crafts, games and music. This was the third event of its kind and provided a unique opportunity to both showcase the refugee community, multiculturalism, and the value they bring to society. On the success of the festival and its larger value, Linda Duberley, ACAA’s Women’s Empowerment Director, said, “The refugee festival was a great critical and cultural success. BBC Persian Service filmed the whole event and we believe we reached an audience of 2 million viewers. This kind of day is vital when it comes to integrating the Afghan community into UK life. We believe it has already raised our profile as the leading charity on challenges facing the Afghan diaspora.” Speaking about the event, ACAA Director, Dr. Nooralhaq Nasimi, said, “The festival was a wonderful opportunity for Afghans to celebrate the diverse cultures of Afghanistan and Central Asia and to build relationships within our community in West London. The challenges facing migrants settling in the UK are immense and events like this are part of the solution.”
